2020 Hyundai Sonata vs 2020 Subaru Legacy and 2020 Volkswagen Passat
The 3 Way Midsize Comparison
In this video I compared the new redesigned 2020 Hyundai Sonata to the new Subaru Legacy and the current model of Volkswagen Passat. Comparing them head to head in terms of technology, cargo volume, comfort level and cabin noise test.
I took all three on the highway to compare the driver assistant technology. Under the hood the Subaru Legacy provides the most bhp with a 2.4L horizontally opposed, 4-cylinder SUBARU BOXER engine, with direct-injection, turbocharger, and intercooler, making 260 hp and 277 lb-ft and it also offers a second engine with the lower trim, 2.5L Dual Overhead Cam, 16-valve, horizontally opposed, 4-cylinder SUBARU BOXER engine,with Electronic Throttle Control and Active Valve Control System making 182 hp and torque: 176 lb-ft matched with a CVT automatic transmission equipped with an advanced FWD system.
In second place we have the Sonata with a 2.5 L smartstream GDI 4 cylinder engine producing 191 bhp and 181 lb ft, and a second engine 1.6 L smartstream GDI 4 cylinder engine producing 180 bhp and 195 lb, both engines are matched with an 8 speed automatic transmission shift by wire.
The Sonata only comes with a FWD system no AWD at the moment. In third places we have the 2020 VW Passat with a single engine choice, 2.0 TSI inline four cylinder, 16V, turbocharged/intercooled making 174 bhp and 184 lb ft of torque and equipped with an AWD system In terms of cargo volume, the Volkswagen Passat and Sonata are the same at 16 cb ft meanwhile the Legacy offers 15 cb ft.
The trunk on all three can be released through the keyfob in order to access the trunk. The Sonata doesn’t use an actual button to release the trunk lid unlike the other two, you could do it through the keyfob or smart trunk feature based on distance behind the vehicle for a few seconds.

Unlike the other brands, the Sonata is the largest sedan in Hyundai’s lineup. Under their luxury brand, Genesis, they have larger options available.
